Double Figure Feast Dish
Hand carved and stained alder wood feast dish with with human-like faces at each end, the faces having open mouths with bone teeth and abalone shell eyes, late 19th/early 20th century.
Provenance:
Collected in Alaska prior to 1902 by Othial Turner (1846-1920) of Turner, Iowa, who was active collecting Native art and artifacts in the mid to late 1800s. The dish was passed down to his son Dr. L.R. Turner (1907-1957), whose estate sold the piece in the early 1970's.
